October 23, 2013 – Over the past few years, the wholesale VoIP industry has exploded. As a result, VoIP Innovations (News – Alert), a wholesale VoIP provider, has been directly affected. In fact, VoIP Innovations was recognized both locally and nationally for its explosive growth, coming in at No. 12 on the 2012 Pittsburgh Business Times Fastest Growing Companies list, as well as No. 744 on the 2012 Inc. 500|5000 America’s Fastest Growing Companies list. I speak on behalf of our entire team when I say that making the Inc. 500|5000 list is truly an honor, and our entire staff is proud of earning this achievement.
Although growth is promising, experiencing explosive growth comes at a price, or what the business world knows as “growing pains.” This type of growth places stress on the systems, processes and people that are exposing any weaknesses. In order to sustain significant growth and ride the proverbial industry wave, VoIP Innovations continues to build-out its platform and operational processes.
“To keep pace with our growth and not stumble, we knew we had to keep a close eye on our internal systems as well as our external carriers,” added Tim Linn, Lead Engineer for VoIP Innovations.
As a result, this summer, VoIP Innovations made a significant capital expenditure to its Sansay (News – Alert) switching platform to bolster its product offering, focusing specifically on adding more horsepower, better failover redundancy and additional licensing. Together, Sansay and VoIP Innovations have built a solid relationship over the past five years, and continue to grow their companies together.
According to Carrier Relations Manager, Sebastian Kiely, the company is already preparing for its next obstacle to sustained growth.
“Upgrading internal hardware and systems only exposes the next chokepoint, and for us it was our upstream carriers and vendors,” said Kiely.
Making sure there is enough upstream capacity is part of navigating the wholesale VoIP market and part of VoIP Innovations’ secret sauce is its ability to negotiate great deals and leverage existing relationships. Recently, VoIP Innovations increased its capacity with Level 3 to accommodate its tremendous wholesale VoIP DID origination and Toll-Free origination growth. They have also added new carriers to increase its coverage footprint and product offerings.
As a result of its exponential growth, VoIP Innovations also expanded its team, with staff being added in its sales, porting and support departments. Further, with the upcoming release of VoIP Innovations’ Titanium Private Label solution for start-up ITSPs, the need for more sales representatives will arise.
